Gators Top Troy with 56 to 6 on Saturday

troy

The Florida senior quarterback, our favorite allstar Tim Tebow managed to throw a total of four touchdowns, rushing for another as the No. 1 team Gators chalked their second win for the season, their 12th straight win after claiming 56 to 6 against the Troy Trojans who are currently 0 and 2 for the season. They did this at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in front of more than 90,000 fans.

For the second time in his career, Tebow managed to throw a surprising four touchdown passes in a single game. The last time this happened was in 2007 in Kentucky with a 45 to 37 win. He managed twice to hook up with Deonte Thompson who caught two touchdown passes, a career high, for 69 yards. He also connected with Riley Cooper as well as Brandon James to make scores.

Tebow managed to rack up a total of 237 yards up in the air, competing 15 out of 24 passes to accompany his four scores and he kept his nation-leading streak of 30 games with a touchdown pass going strong.

Under rainy conditions and plenty of clouds, both teams unfortunately got off to quite a slow start. The gator defense managed to hold the Trojans for three possessions and both teams managed to surrender fumbles. The Florida senior defensive end, who is Jermaine Cunningham managed to cause the first, then a drop by DuJuan Harris from Troy was recovered by Justin Trattou, the junior defensive end.

This fumble and recovery managed to lead to the first score for the Gators, and once they got going they couldn't seem to find a way to stop. In the last six minutes of the second quarter, Florida managed to capitalize on Troy's back to back errors in order to bring the score up to 35 to 3. By the halftime, the Gators had a sturdy lead of 32 points.

By the third quarter, and with only six minutes remaining on the clock, John Brantley, a redshirt sophomore, took over at the quarterback post and finished the day for the gators with a total of 135 yards and having completed 10 out of 12 passes and throwing a touchdown.

By the end of the game, the Gators had 56 and the Trojans only had 6. Florida is going to be continuing its home stand on September 19, which is when Florida goes up against Tennessee at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. They will be opening up 2009 SEC play with this one, and kick off is currently slated for 3:30 pm. The game is going to be broadcast live nationally thanks to CBS.

Florida Gators Preview: Troy Trojans

CaptureThe Florida Gators are definitely expecting a bigger challenge this week from the Troy Trojans.

On Monday, Florida's coach, Urban Meyer, said that the Gators are preparing themselves for what is likely to be a much tougher contest this week against the Troy Trojans, at least in comparison to their recent win over Charleston Southern, which was a 62 to 3 win last week. The Trojans, who are currently sitting at 0 and 1 are coming off of a loss to Bowling Green, 31 to 14. Meyer still said that the caliber of skill and talent involved here is going to be significantly higher.

The Gators managed to defeat the Troy Trojans back in 2007 with 59 to 37. While Florida is currently boasting a roster that is filled to the brim with veterans on both sides, in the opener last week there are eight Trojans that just finally made their first college start, and 22 players who were just playing their very first game.

The senior return specialist, who is Brandon James, was just recently named as being the co special teams player for the week by the SEC on Monday. He had played an 85 yard long kickoff return with a touchdown, and had 123 all purpose yards. He got to share this special honor with the Arkansas sophomore player Dennis Johnson, who managed a kickoff return for 91 yards.

With a brand new offensive coordinator, who is Steve Addazio, and two brand new coaches who are calling plays from above, Brian White the TE coach and Scot Loeffler the QB coach, the Gators got to use Saturday's game as something of a testing ground for all of these new responsibilities. According to quarterback Tim Tebow, it was definitely different, but there was some really good communication with the new coaches.

Tim Tebow is remaining in touch with the former offensive coordinator, Dan Mullen, who is now the coach for Mississippi state. Apparently they are still text messaging back and forth, and Mullen wished Tebow luck on the game last Friday.

Current Injuries: Brandon Hicks, the LB, recently returned to practice, where he is battling A.J. Jones of Tampa for some playing time. Lawrence Marsh who has an injured ankle is still remaining probably. Carl Johnson, OL, has a bone bruise, and this kept him from practicing on Sunday but he is expected to be back in the game this week. Brendan Beal, an LB, has an injured neck and so his return right now is relatively doubtful, and it is not currently known whether or not he will be returning any time in the next two weeks. Finally, Jelani Jenkins has a reinjured ankle, but it is probable that he will be returning sooner rather than later.
