With Alabama and Florida both 12-0 for the season, both teams knew that only one could remain undefeated after Saturday's game. That team was Alabama, reigning over Florida 32-13, and knocking the Gators to 12-1 for the season. In the Georgia Dome, 75,514 fans turned out to see Alabama remain victorious during this second consecutive game that the two teams met in the SEC championships.

Overall, this was the 7th time Crimson Tide met the Gators in an SEC championship game, and the 4th since Meyer became Gator's head coach (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009) putting him 2-2 with Alabama. This marks the first time the Gator's lost an away game since January 1st, 2008, when they lost to Michigan in the Capital One Bowl game. Tim Tebow, departing senior quarterback who's had a stellar season, completed 20 passes of 35 for 247 yards and scored 1 touchdown. Junior tight end Aaron Hernandez had 8 catches for 85 yards, But Alabama's offense managed 490 yards, and a victory.

The Crimson Tide started the game with 9 plays and 47 yards, with senior kicker Leigh Tiffin putting the first 3 points on the board thanks to a 48-yard field goal kick. Over 10 minutes of the first quarter had already passed.

Alabama forced Florida to a 3 and out punt their first time out, the Mark Ingram scored Alabama's first touchdown with a 7-yard run with 5:33 remaining in the first quarter. The score became 6-0, with a missed extra point.

The Gators' next shot at control of the ball led to 2 third down conversions, and Caleb Sturgis kicked a good one 48 yards for the Gators' first 3 points on the board. Each team punted and after a career-first sack by Florida's Ahmad Black, Alabama scored a 34-yard field goal after a 68-yard, 12-play push, putting Alabama at 12-3.

Then Florida rallied and scored their first touchdown with Tebow rushing 38 yards and making a 23-yard pass to wide receiver David Nelson who caught it in the end zone. The score moved to 12-10 Alabama.

Alabama answered with their second touchdown that stretched their lead to 19-10 on their next possession, with a 3-yard rush by Ingram. The Gators narrowed the gap to 19-13 with a 32-yard field goal from Sturgis with less than a minute-and-a-half in the first half.

Florida had possession at the start of the second half, and punted. Alabama drove the ball 74 yards, and quarterback Greg McElroy passed it 17 yards to tight end Colin Peek who scored, widening Alabama's lead to 26-13. Alabama's 3rd touchdown came with less than 14 minutes in the 4th quarter on a 1-yard rush by Ingram, with a failed 2-point conversion, widening the gap to 32-13.

Florida looked about to score and bridge the gap with 11:51 left, but Alabama cornerback Javier Arenas intercepted Tebow in the end zone. Another attempt by the Gators ended on downs at 7:28 remaining in the game, and the Crimson Tide held onto the ball for the remainder of the game, grabbing the SEC championship with a score of 32-13. The Gators' next Bowl game has not yet been announced.

SEC play opened up with a game between Tennessee and Florida, and the Florida Gators mopped the floor with the Tennessee Volunteers in front of a school record of 90,894 fans that gathered at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday so that they could watch the No.1 team, the Florida Gators defeat the Volunteers from Tennessee. Now the Florida Gators are 3 and 0 with 1 and 0 for the SEC, and the Tennessee Volunteers are at 1 and 2 with 0 and 1 for the SEC. The Gators won the game with 23 to 13. With this win, UF has now set a new record for the school with a collective thirteen game winning streak.

Under their head coach, Urban Meyer, the Gators are now sitting at 5 and 0 against Tennessee. Florida managed to accumulate 208 in the air under the lead of the senior quarterback, who is Tim Tebow. He completed 14 out of 19 passes, and he also went for 79 yards and a single touchdown. This is the 46th total career touchdown, tying him in second place in the history of the SEC with Kevin Faulk from LSU.

Chris Rainey, a redshirt sophomore, put together a total of 64 yards with 9 carries.

Aaron Hernandez led the Gators with a total of 4 receptions and 26 yards.

Caleb Sturgis, a sophomore kicker, was 2 for 2 with field goals during the first half, which gave the Gators an advantage of 3 and 0 to kick off the showdown. He capped off a 10 yard, 8 play drive after achieving the first field goal for his entire career, which was a boot of 37 yards that fell at the 11:33 mark during the first quarter, allowing Florida to be the first on the board.

Sturgis would go on to tack on an additional three more points from field goals for UF during the third quarter, adding in the 20th victory in the series for the Florida Gators.

In the second half, Tennessee received the ball but the Gators managed an interception, and it led to another field goal by Sturgis, this time it was a 35 yard field goal. At this point, the Orange and Blue was ahead with 16 to 3. Joe Haden's pick marked the fifteenth straight game that the Gators were able to come up with an interception, which actually happens to be a leading statistic in the NCAA.

Florida managed to tack on an additional score at the very end of the third, taking a seven yard touchdown by Jeff Demps. The third quarter closed out with UF ahead by 23 to 6.

After forcing the Gators to punt during the end of the fourth, Tennessee ended up facing a fourth and six situation. Crompton threw the ball downfield but was picked off by Ahmad Black. The game closed out at 23 and 13, giving Florida possession of the series lead all time, with 20 to 19.

Tebow Covered By $2 Million in Insurance

timtebowHow much do you think you'd be worth if you were a winner of two national championships, a Heisman Trophy and the adoration of an unstoppable force of Florida Gator fans? Apparently, you would be worth about $2 million dollars.

The quarterback for the Gators, Tim Tebow, recently disclosed during SEC Media Days this past Thursday that he has taken out roughly $2,000,000 dollars worth of insurance policies, according to Florida Today.

This senior quarterback spoke to Florida Today, telling them that he had not even considered buying so much insurance until the head coach for his team, Urban Meyer decided to intervene.

Tebow asked Florida Today how many times anyone really takes advantage of the insurance. He says that he may have it, but only because Urban Meyer, his coach for the Gators told him that he needed to get it. He claimed that he did not want to get any more insurance.

The policies that Tebow has taken out on himself are designed to cover injuries, which is a practice that is allowed under the regulations for the NCAA. Typically the premiums on these policies are not actually paid until after the player signs an NFL contract.

This year, Tebow decline to actually raise the amount of his policy. According to Florida Today, however, he could have actually qualified for as much as $6,000,000 if he had purchased the insurance policy through an independent insurance agent.

He told reporters that he isn't thinking negatively, waiting for something to happen. But instead, he says that he was just acting on the advice of coach Urban Meyer and coach Dan Mullen that thought it should be purchased.

Insurance policies for this purpose are available both through the NCAA and also through independent agencies as well.
