September 22nd, 2009 — Florida Gators Football, Gator News, Results, Tennessee Volunteers

SEC play opened up with a game between Tennessee and Florida, and the Florida Gators mopped the floor with the Tennessee Volunteers in front of a school record of 90,894 fans that gathered at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday so that they could watch the No.1 team, the Florida Gators defeat the Volunteers from Tennessee. Now the Florida Gators are 3 and 0 with 1 and 0 for the SEC, and the Tennessee Volunteers are at 1 and 2 with 0 and 1 for the SEC. The Gators won the game with 23 to 13. With this win, UF has now set a new record for the school with a collective thirteen game winning streak.
Under their head coach, Urban Meyer, the Gators are now sitting at 5 and 0 against Tennessee. Florida managed to accumulate 208 in the air under the lead of the senior quarterback, who is Tim Tebow. He completed 14 out of 19 passes, and he also went for 79 yards and a single touchdown. This is the 46th total career touchdown, tying him in second place in the history of the SEC with Kevin Faulk from LSU.
Chris Rainey, a redshirt sophomore, put together a total of 64 yards with 9 carries.
Aaron Hernandez led the Gators with a total of 4 receptions and 26 yards.
Caleb Sturgis, a sophomore kicker, was 2 for 2 with field goals during the first half, which gave the Gators an advantage of 3 and 0 to kick off the showdown. He capped off a 10 yard, 8 play drive after achieving the first field goal for his entire career, which was a boot of 37 yards that fell at the 11:33 mark during the first quarter, allowing Florida to be the first on the board.
Sturgis would go on to tack on an additional three more points from field goals for UF during the third quarter, adding in the 20th victory in the series for the Florida Gators.
In the second half, Tennessee received the ball but the Gators managed an interception, and it led to another field goal by Sturgis, this time it was a 35 yard field goal. At this point, the Orange and Blue was ahead with 16 to 3. Joe Haden's pick marked the fifteenth straight game that the Gators were able to come up with an interception, which actually happens to be a leading statistic in the NCAA.
Florida managed to tack on an additional score at the very end of the third, taking a seven yard touchdown by Jeff Demps. The third quarter closed out with UF ahead by 23 to 6.
After forcing the Gators to punt during the end of the fourth, Tennessee ended up facing a fourth and six situation. Crompton threw the ball downfield but was picked off by Ahmad Black. The game closed out at 23 and 13, giving Florida possession of the series lead all time, with 20 to 19.

September 14th, 2009 — Florida Gators Football, Gator Game Preview, Gator News, Tennessee Volunteers
The no. 1 team Florida, currently 2 - 0 going to be playing host to Tennessee, currently 1 - 1 this upcoming weekend. Fueled by Lane Kiffin's feelings and words about the upcoming game, the game has a lot of considerable hype surrounding it and it is going to be adding a brand new chapter to this rivalry which was already quite intense before. Moments after Florida defeated Troy with 56 to 6 on Saturday, the players and the coaches of the Florida Gators immediately shifted all of their attention to the Tennessee Volunteers.
The season is beginning now for real, according to the senior receiver, David Nelson.
Although the season started a couple of games ago, this is the match up that the UF Gators have been waiting for, and there is no doubt that Tennessee is just as riled up about this upcoming match up.
The build up that has been coming for Saturday's game at 3:30 against Tennessee actually seems to have began a long time ago.
Kiffin has seemingly made it his top priority to tease, to infuriate and to one-up the coach of the Florida Gators, Urban Meyer and his team. He has been making headlines right and left by making comments and taking actions that turned this rivalry into something much more serious than it ever was before. He even tried to take Billy Gonzales away from Urban Meyer, but Meyer managed to retain his most loyal assistant.
Tennessee has even created a billboard in Broward County. Both Tennessee were working on recruiting top players in that area. What did the billboard say? Simply, "It's time", and it certainly is time, isn't it?
Tim Tebow even commented that there is something different there now when they play against Tennessee, ever since this rivalry took a much more serious turn. Meyer plans on keeping his team focused in the days before the game through more difficult practice. Offensive lineman James Wilson for UF says that the rivalry is motivating the team, and they are simply counting down the days until they can go up against Tennessee. So much so that they have a sign in their weight room denoting how many days are remaining until Tennessee.
What impact is this rivalry going to have on the upcoming game? Tennessee seems to be motivated by the rivalry, but UF has something else on their side: Two epic wins and a 2 - 0 record that puts them at the top of the scoreboard in many ways. Are these teams ready to finally put Kiffin's words on the line, challenging his threats once and for all?
This is definitely going to be an interesting game. The season starts now, it seems.
