Gators’ Winning Streak Ends with a 32-13 Alabama Victory

crimsontidefans

With Alabama and Florida both 12-0 for the season, both teams knew that only one could remain undefeated after Saturday's game. That team was Alabama, reigning over Florida 32-13, and knocking the Gators to 12-1 for the season. In the Georgia Dome, 75,514 fans turned out to see Alabama remain victorious during this second consecutive game that the two teams met in the SEC championships.

Overall, this was the 7th time Crimson Tide met the Gators in an SEC championship game, and the 4th since Meyer became Gator's head coach (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009) putting him 2-2 with Alabama. This marks the first time the Gator's lost an away game since January 1st, 2008, when they lost to Michigan in the Capital One Bowl game. Tim Tebow, departing senior quarterback who's had a stellar season, completed 20 passes of 35 for 247 yards and scored 1 touchdown. Junior tight end Aaron Hernandez had 8 catches for 85 yards, But Alabama's offense managed 490 yards, and a victory.

The Crimson Tide started the game with 9 plays and 47 yards, with senior kicker Leigh Tiffin putting the first 3 points on the board thanks to a 48-yard field goal kick. Over 10 minutes of the first quarter had already passed.

Alabama forced Florida to a 3 and out punt their first time out, the Mark Ingram scored Alabama's first touchdown with a 7-yard run with 5:33 remaining in the first quarter. The score became 6-0, with a missed extra point.

The Gators' next shot at control of the ball led to 2 third down conversions, and Caleb Sturgis kicked a good one 48 yards for the Gators' first 3 points on the board. Each team punted and after a career-first sack by Florida's Ahmad Black, Alabama scored a 34-yard field goal after a 68-yard, 12-play push, putting Alabama at 12-3.

Then Florida rallied and scored their first touchdown with Tebow rushing 38 yards and making a 23-yard pass to wide receiver David Nelson who caught it in the end zone. The score moved to 12-10 Alabama.

Alabama answered with their second touchdown that stretched their lead to 19-10 on their next possession, with a 3-yard rush by Ingram. The Gators narrowed the gap to 19-13 with a 32-yard field goal from Sturgis with less than a minute-and-a-half in the first half.

Florida had possession at the start of the second half, and punted. Alabama drove the ball 74 yards, and quarterback Greg McElroy passed it 17 yards to tight end Colin Peek who scored, widening Alabama's lead to 26-13. Alabama's 3rd touchdown came with less than 14 minutes in the 4th quarter on a 1-yard rush by Ingram, with a failed 2-point conversion, widening the gap to 32-13.

Florida looked about to score and bridge the gap with 11:51 left, but Alabama cornerback Javier Arenas intercepted Tebow in the end zone. Another attempt by the Gators ended on downs at 7:28 remaining in the game, and the Crimson Tide held onto the ball for the remainder of the game, grabbing the SEC championship with a score of 32-13. The Gators' next Bowl game has not yet been announced.

Florida Gators vs Florida State Seminoles

uffsu

The Florida Gators ratcheted their ranking up to 12-0 on Saturday by beating Florida State's Seminoles with a decisive 37-10. And quarterback Tim Tebow, a 2007 Heisman Trophy Winner, had another stellar game. It's fitting that the record-setting Gators games should have had senior Tebow with a whopping 5 touchdowns and top of his game play, because it was his last home game as a Gator.

Saturday's game was the home finale, and the crowd of almost 91,000 fans sent him off in style with emotions running high for both Tebow and spectators. There's still the SEC Championship game, but Tebow's scored his last touchdown at his home stadium. As Tebow left the field for the last time, the fans cheered and gave him a standing ovation, many wearing his famed black eyepatches, and a tearful Tebow hugged coach Meyer at the 30-yard line.

The Gators are on a 22 game winning streak, and have achieved a 12-0 season for only the second time the school's history. It's the first time in Gators history that they've reached 12-0 in the regular season, however. The first time in 1995 included a post-season game. Tebow also now holds the record of a total 11,389 career yards.

Many who already thought that Bobby Bowden, the Seminoles coach for over 3 decades, should retire are renewed in their opinion that it's time for a new coach at Florida State. The Seminoles are 6 for 6, and came out of the gate at the beginning of the season with less than great gameplay. Bowden ranks 2nd, however, in college football coaches with most career victories overall.

Other notable Gators include tight end Aaron Hernandez who had 2 touchdowns, 5 catches and 83 yards, a career high for him. Jeff Demps had 7 carries, more than other players, and a total of 106 yards rushing. Quarterback John Brantley once again took over for Tebow during the game, this time early in the 4th quarter. He finished the game 2 of 2 with 13 yards.

Florida shut out the Seminoles for the first half, scoring 3 touchdowns and one field goal. They'd forced punts 4 times in the first half. The Gators first touchdown came just less than 7 minutes into the first quarter, with Tebow orchestrating a shovel pass reaching 18 yards to Hernandez. They forced the Seminoles to punt and then running back Chris Rainey helped the ball 55 yards of a 69 yard drive. Strugis kicked and scored the 3-point goal giving the gators 10 at the beginning of the second quarter.

An 80-yard drive, the longest of this season, gave Tebow an 18-yard rushing touchdown, his career 55th. With the extra point, it was Gators 17-0. Just over 2 minutes until halftime, Gators got possession and Hernandez caught a 37-yard pass from Tebow for the score, putting the score at 24-0

Riley Cooper caught the first touchdown pass of the second half, then FSU scored for the first time with 3 seconds left in the third quarter. Tebow got his 56th rushing touchdown during the game, and ended the season with his best performance this year.

Gators Continue Undefeated Following 27 to 3 Win Against Vanderbilt

floridavanderbilt

While playing in front of a grand total of 90,694 fans of the team, the No 1 Florida team, the Gators managed to win a 19th game in a row following a 27 to 3 victory against Vanderbilt while playing in Saturday in the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Gators are now 9 and 0 for the season and 7 and 0 for the SEC conference, and they managed to hold back the Commodores, who are 2 and 8 for the season and 0 and 6 for the SEC to only a total of 99 rushing yards and 100 passing yards. This is the sixth time so far this season that the defense on the UF team has managed to hold an opponent back to less than 100 yards total rushing.

This 9 and 0 start is the third time ever this has happened in the entire history of the school.

Led by the senior quarterback, who is Tim Tebow, who managed to complete 15 out of 20 total passes for a total of 208 yards and a single touchdown, the UF Gators managed to rack up a total of 227 yards in the air, accompanying 148 yards total on the ground while playing against the Commodores.

The Junior tight end, who is Aaron Hernandez from Bristol, Connecticut, had what was a true career day, after he tallied a career-tying number of receptions, seven in total, for 120 yards in the air, a career high for him. This included a 64 yard haul during the fourth which was also a career record for him.

After both teams managed to start slowly, including two different punts for the Vanderbilt team during their first two possessions, and a single punt for the Gators on their first possession, the Gators finally managed to put some points on the board with only a single minute left during the first quarter, when they nabbed a 27 yard long field goal on the behalf of Caleb Sturgis. Florida managed to swing into action with a 75 yard and 13 play drive including an excellent 14-yard long reception on the behalf of a redshirt senior by the name of David Nelson as well as a 21-yard long catch on the behalf of Hernandez, allowing the team to take a lead early on in the game.

During the fourth quarter, with only around 11 minutes left on the clock, Florida was taking advantage of errors on Vanderbilt's part to extend the lead to a whopping 27 to 3. This was Nelson's first touchdown for the season, and it concluded the scoring for both of the teams, resulting in the game's final score of 27 to 3.

Are the Gators Looking Beyond Vanderbilt toward South Carolina?

VanderbiltReportedly, Urban Meyer, Brandon Spikes and Tim Tebow met and had a meeting with other key members of the team and it has been said that everyone is now on the same page when it comes to the Gators team. Obviously some of the results from the post-Mississippi State meeting has been seen since the Gators managed to take a 41 to 17 win against the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia should have taken the chance to wear their black helmets for the very first time but they squandered the opportunity instead.

The Gators are now going to have to focus all of their attention on the very next stop on their tour which is Vanderbilt. Right now Vanderbilt is at 2 and 7 for the season and 0 and 5 for the SEC conference play, and for the SEC East Division they are currently in last place. Offensively, they have actually been pretty offensive during this past season. They are currently ranked 93rd in terms of total offense, 109th in terms of passing offense and 110th in terms of scoring offense in the country. Defensively it seems that they have fared a little better, but they are not fairing well enough to concern the Gators in the slightest.

Tim Tebow and his roommate Riley Cooper the wide receiver have both seemed to have ironed out whatever wrinkles were previously in the playbook. Right now both Dave Nelson and Deonte Thompson are absent in terms of the passing attack. A current playmaker is the tight end Aaron Hernandez, who is making plays every single time that he touches the ball.

The running game in Florida is still quite potent, especially with Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps and Emmanuel Moody. The Gators are ranked at 6th in the Nation and they are averaging 252.25 yards for each game on the ground. Tim Tebow is definitely making up a lot of those yards himself.

It is important that the Florida Gators keep their attention on the Vanderbilt Commodores this week, but it seems that their mind is on other things. Urban Meyer is going to tell you that his team is only preparing for the Commodores right now, and that they are not thinking about the looming upcoming South Carolina game. He will tell you that the team is not even going to think about the South Carolina game until the days following the Vanderbilt football game. Unfortunately, we know quite well that it is human nature to look ahead, and the Florida Gators are almost certainly wondering about their future.

The OBC is definitely looking forward to a stop by the Gators in Columbia in the following two weeks.

Florida has a lot of improving to do, especially in terms of offense. The offensive line also has to improve in terms of pass protection because they cannot go on forever relying on Tebow.

No. 1 Team Florida Gators Manage to Prevail Against LSU Tigers

auburntigers

The Florida Gators college football team has managed to prevail again, defeated Baton Rouge Louisiana's Tigers with 13 to 3 this past week.

In front of a record breaking crowd of more than 93,000 screaming fans at Tiger Stadium, the No. 1 Florida Gator team that currently sits at 5 and 0 with 3 and 0 for the SEC managed to take down the number 4 team, the LSU Tigers, who are currently sitting at 5 and 1 and 3 and 1 SEC with an end game score of 13 to 3 on Saturday. This managed to extend the longest active winning streak in the nation for a team on the road with fifteen games and running so far. This win by Florida managed to snap the Saturday Night winning streak that the LSU team was maintaining up until now. The Gators managed to hold the Tigers to a mere 162 yards in total offense while playing this week in Baton Rouge.

The senior quarterback, who is Tim Tebow from Jacksonville in Florida managed to complete 11 out of 16 passes, and he threw a touchdown in the team's victory. The junior tight end for the Gators, Aaron Hernandez who is from Bristol in Connecticut managed to lead the receiving corps for the team, and he managed to reel in a total of six receptions for a total of 70 yards. Jeff Demps, a sophomore athlete from Winter Garden in Florida managed to amass a total of 86 yards on a total of 16 carries, which helped to lead Florida on the ground.

It wasn't even until the second quarter that LSU managed to score. A failed conversion during the fourth down with 12:08 remaining during the second quarter allowed LSU to take the ball on their own 20, and then a series of penalties on Florida's behalf allowed the LSU Tigers to advance a total of 77 yards down the field, where they claimed 3 points with a field goal on the behalf of John Jasper.

Luckily, the Gators were able to maintain their defense, keeping LSU at 3. They held the Tigers throughout the next few quarters. During the fourth quarter, and after securing four consecutive first downs, LSU had to turn the ball over to the Gators on downs, and this sealed in the victory of 13 to 3 on the behalf of the Florida Gators.

Florida is working on returning home for a homecoming weekend match in Gainesville. They will be matching up with the Razorbacks from Arkansas on October 17, and they will be playing at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Florida Gators Football 2009 Roster Highlights

gatorsThere are some very memorable faces that are coming back to the Florida Gators sideline for the upcoming 2009 season as well as a few additional brand new faces. Some of the old faces from the Florida Gators are even moving up into much larger roles during the 2009 season, which is necessary for picking the slack up for those that have departed since the 2008 season.

Here are the 2009 Stars:

Quarterback Tim Tebow is the most accomplished WB in the history of Florida, and he has definitely lived up to all the hype, having lead the gators to a national championship during the last season after having won the Heisman Trophy while playing as a sophomore. What is left for him to prove? Why has he decided to come back to play his senior season with the Gators? Tim Tebow is hoping to Lead Florida to national championships back to back while he improves on his NFL draft stock.

Brandon Spokes passed on the potential for being drafted during the first NFL draft round in order to return to the Gators to play his senior football season. He is going to be anchoring a defense that is returning all 11 of its starters.

Running Back and Kick Returner Brandon James is definitely one of the top threats to be returning in college foot ball right now. He has four total career punt returns with touchdowns, and he is looking to spend his senior season breaking this school record.

Running Back and Wide Receiver Jeff Demps recently emerged as a real home run threat in the spread offense when he was a freshman, and he rushed for 605 yards with 7.8 yards per carry and seven touchdowns. Now that Percy Harvin is out of the picture, Demps is being given a real opportunity to earn even more really big plays during his sophomore year.

Tight End Aaron Hernandez spend his first year as a starter establishing himself as one of the top tight ends for pass catching in the entire country, and he has also established himself as a potential first round NFL draft pick. During his sophomore year, Hernandez caught 34 passes with 381 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns.

Punt Kicker Jonathan Phillips has been allowed a fifth year for eligibility after making 12 out of his 13 field goal attempts during the last season.

2009's Top Stars

Wide Receiver Andre DeBose is a true freshman from outside of Orlando, and he may be able to help fill the role that has been vacated since Percy Harvin entered into the NFL draft. DeBose is a threat that is speedy and versatile enough that he can play receiver and running back in the spread offense for Urban Meyer.

Dee Finley enrolled in the University in January, and is being given a chance to develop a real niche since he has outstanding speed and great playmaking ability.

Finally, Gary Brown is a 6-4 and 275lb Brown that earned a place as the second best defensive tackle in the entire country, according to http://www.scout.com. He may be able to fill a really important role in the defensive tackle rotation for Florida.

Florida Gators Preview

timtebowWhat you should be watching out for on the offense: The I-formation. The new offensive coordinator, Steve Addazio, has been experimenting over the off season in order to add a few more wrinkles to this equation. This isn't going to end up being 1977 Nebraska, and the spread really isn't going to go anywhere, but part of the plan here is going to be to develop the passing ability for Tim Tebow while allowing the running backs to become more involved. The biggest beneficiary that is involved in the offense this year is the tight end, Aaron Hernandez. The third leading receiver for the team last year is going to get the ball much more often, and now that Murphy and Harvin are both gone, he is going to be the go-to receiver.

What you should be watching out for on the defense: Watch for the backups. 11 starters are returning from a team defense that managed to finish in ninth place for the entire nation, holding down the Oklahoma defense and taking fourth in scoring defense, and this means that there isn't much room available for wild and sweeping changes to this line up, but some of the back ups are better than the starters, and this is a problem without really being a problem.

The team is going to improve if: If the team doesn't buy into all of the outside hype and pressures, and if the penalties slow down, then the team is going to be far better. Every week there is going to be another greatest of all time type of story, and the players are going to want to hit that point. The attention from the media, everyone trying to win the games by three touch downs, is not necessary because all that the team has to do is play up to their capabilities rather than the hype, and everything is going to be fine.

The schedule: Playing on October 10th against LSU and then October 31st against Georgia, and this is it. There is plenty of talk already about a potential upset in South Carolina, but if Florida is going to play as well as its supposed to, then this is not going to be a bad trip at all. Unless there is some kind of a major upset at Kentucky, at Mississippi State or against Florida State, there is nothing else that needs to be worried about.

Who is the best offensive player? The Senior Quarterback, Tim Tebow. You may be sick of him, and it is likely only going to get worse, but he really is that good. He has completed 66% out of all of his passes for 67 touch downs and 6,390 yards, 11 interceptions, 43 scores and 2,037 yards rushing. He throws a much better and much more accurate ball than most of the scouts are giving him credit for. His bruising style of running isn't really pretty but it is still quite brutally effective.

Who is the best defensive player? The senior linebacker, Brandon Spikes, is the best defensive player on the team right now. He has made 239 tackles in his career, breaking up 11 passes, claiming 25 tackles for loss and 3 interceptions. His athleticism and size are prototype for the sport and he is likely to become more of a spokesman for the team than even Tebow will.

Key Player: The key player to achieving a successful season is going to be the sophomore wide receiver Deonte Thompson. Florida isn't going to have another Harvin, but it will have several different receivers capable of flying. Thompson has caught 18 passes, 3 touch downs and 269 yards and he has a catch average of 14.9 yards.

The season is going to be successful if: If Florida manages to go 14-0 while winning the national championship. If anything less than the absolute perfect season is obtained, then the team is going to be disappointed. Anything less than obtaining a national championship is going to be a complete failure. The expectations may be ridiculously high, but they certainly deserve to be.

The Key Game will be: The October 31 game against Georgia. Watch out for this. Georgia is really, exceptionally good, better than they were last year, and they absolutely have the potential to pull off this win in this truly heated rivalry.

Here are some interesting stats from 2008:

  • Florida threw 5 interceptions, opponents threw 26.
  • The third down percentage of conversions for Florida was 52% or 83 out of 161, and for Opponents was 33% or 63 out of 192.
  • The first quarter scoring for Florida was 167 and only 20 for Opponents.
